Why I Picked
This was the first book I picked up last year. It was late summer. I just moved into my new apartment and I was closer to my local library than ever before. With all the newness going on in my life, I wanted to continue that ongoing trend. I had read a little last year, it mainly consisted of the Throne of Glass series, some iBooks that I had found mildly interesting, Legendborne, and A Fire Bright and Burning(I hated this book).
While Throne of Glass was okay, it made me miss the thrill of reading fantasy. I couldn’t quite get attached to the characters on TOG but the plot was interesting enough. Not enough to finish out the series though, shoutout to Fantasy Fixations on YouTube, girl you saved me, I was not reading all that.
Around the time I was picking this book I happened to join a book club with a friend of mine. This book happened to be one of my recommendations to read for our first book. It seemed really interesting. Magic, Romance, and Pirates. What more could you want? I had 2 other nominees for reading but this one seemed to win everyone over.
At this time, I was mainly focused on YA because it was what I knew and loved. Going in that direction couldn’t be bad for someone getting back into the swing of reading again.
