SlaughterHouse Five Review

Overall Reading Experience

I’d always heard of this book but never got to read it. I’m pretty sure it was a required book to read in one of my reading classes but I moved away before we read it. Thankfully, someone in my book club wanted to read it, putting it on my radar once again.

I didn’t know much about the book before going in. Mostly that it was an anti war book and that it takes place during World War 2.

I thought it was a nice read. One of the better books that I’ve read this year. Most of the sentiments expressed, I already agreed with but it was all written very beautifully. It was a short read but packed with emotion and thought provoking lines and characters that felt real even if they were there for a short amount of time. I did have some small trouble in the beginning of the story to with POV and the style of writing but I understood the purpose of doing so. I liked the writing, more comedic than I thought for a topic so serious. I would probably read other works by him down the line.

It was nice to read a book like this especially during the times that we’re living in right now. I think I read this around the time the BBB passed and I’ve been following the Palestinian genocide and the occupations of Congo and Sudan for quite some time. It’s a nice reminder to not fight the wars that others want you to fight or how the trauma of war affects one and how we as people treat those affected individuals.
